Receive Instant Payment Notifications for Mass Payments

If you have Instant Payment Notification (IPN) enabled for your account, PayPal sends an IPN for each completed payment made during Mass Payments transaction processing. PayPal also generates a status for each payment. The status can be Completed, Failed, Reversed, or Unclaimed. For descriptions of the status values, see IPN and PDT Variable Reference in the Instant Payment Notification Guide. If recipients have IPN set up on their account, they will also receive an IPN for each completed payment.

For more information about Instant Payment Notifications, see the IPN Integration Guide.

Use the Settlement and the Transaction Detail reports

Note: The Settlement and Transaction Detail reports can be used only by approved merchants and processing partners. Contact your PayPal account manager for more information.

The Settlement and Transaction Detail reports identify different types of transactions with transaction event codes (T-codes).

Mass payment transactions display the following T-codes in these two reports:

  • T0001 - Mass Payment (successful)
  • T0104 - Mass Payment batch fee
  • T1105 - Reversal of a general account hold
  • T1114 - Mass Payment reversal transaction
  • T1115 - Mass Payment refund transaction
  • T1503 - Temporary hold on funds during processing

While the transaction is being processed, the transaction event code will appear in the report as T1503 when PayPal places a temporary hold to reserve the total Mass Payment amount plus the associated fees from your PayPal account. Once the Mass Payment batch has processed and the hold is released, the transaction event code will be T1105. The adjustment to your PayPal account balance will reflect the status of the individual transactions in that batch. After the release, if one or more transactions is declined, your PayPal account balance may exceed the available account balance shown during the period of the hold. The PayPal Reference ID column will allow you to track the associated transaction on hold. The original Transaction ID will be captured in this column.
