# Customize subscription button using your dashboard (/subscriptions/dashboard/customize-subscription-button)

Customize your subscription checkout button, including layout, shape, color, and button text.



## Before you begin [#before-you-begin]

Use the Subscriptions settings to choose your API credentials, checkout layout, button style, and color before you add the button to your website.

1. Log in to your [PayPal business account](https://www.paypal.com/business/open-business-account).
2. From the navigation menu, select **Sales** > **Subscriptions** > **Subscription plans**.
3. Select the plan you want to customize and select **Turn Plan On**.

## Customize your checkout [#customize-your-checkout]

After you select **Turn Plan On**, you're ready to share your subscription. Customize your checkout experience, then add the code to your website.

1. Choose your **API credentials**. By default, only **Default App** is available. This links your website to your PayPal account so you can get paid. You can rename the app in your account settings.
2. Choose a checkout layout: **Vertical** or **Horizontal**.
3. Choose a button shape: **Rectangle** or **Pill**.
4. Choose a button color: **Gold**, **Blue**, **Silver**, **White**, or **Black**.
5. Choose your button text: **PayPal** or **Subscribe**.
6. Review the checkout preview on your screen to verify it matches your selections.
7. Select **Copy Code**.
