Managed path uses multiple account types for different parts of the payment lifecycle. All accounts are considered PayPal business accounts.

The following table provides an overview of the different account types in managed path:

API caller accountUsed to make API calls for the integration.
Recoupment accountUsed for the recoupment process and requires a confirmed bank account to be attached.
Partner fee accountUsed to settle partner platform fees and requires a confirmed bank account to be attached.
Non-loginable merchant account (NLM)Created for each merchant during onboarding using the Multi-Level Account Management API. The merchant can't log in to access the account.

Organization account

An organization account is a PayPal business account that acts as the parent for all non-loginable merchant (NLM) accounts you create on behalf of your merchants. You can configure settings on this account that pass on to each NLM you create. Payment transactions are settled to this account after being credited to the NLM accounts.

API caller account

Create an API caller account to make API calls for the integration. This account also has access to the PayPal SFTP server to access reports. Create this account in the country where you do business.

Recoupment account

Create a recoupment account from which to debit the cost of any refunds or chargebacks. You'll need to attach and confirm the bank account you want funds to be debited from.

Partner fee account

Create a partner fee account to settle platform fees. You'll need to attach and confirm the bank account you want funds to be deposited to.

Non-loginable merchant account

Create non-loginable merchant accounts for each merchant you onboard using the Managed Path API. There is only one account for each merchant, and merchants can't log in to access the account.

For more information about creating a non-loginable merchant account, see Merchant onboarding.
