Personal Payment Funding Options
Last updated: Feb 27th, 8:38am
To send money from a payer's context to complete a payment, you must generate a list of funding options and choose an option.
The funding options list includes funding instruments, the funding mix, transaction fees, and, if applicable, compliance information.
The least expensive funding option, such as money from a PayPal balance, appears first in the list. However, if multiple funding options are equally expensive, the one that processes fastest appears first in the list.
Funding option types
Funding options can include:
- The user's PayPal account balance
- An associated bank account
- An associated credit card
The following rules determine which funding options appear in the list:
-
If the PayPal account balance has sufficient funds to cover the transaction, the funding options list does not include a credit card.
-
If the balance only partially covers the transaction, bank and credit card options are available for funding mix options. If the account has any available balance and an associated bank and credit card, the mix options are balance plus bank and balance plus card.
-
For a zero balance, where the user has both a bank and credit card, both appear in the funding options list.
-
If the account has only a balance and credit card, the funding plan includes both in the funding options list.
The list includes a credit card only if the PayPal account balance does not cover the transaction. The list always includes an associated bank account.
