Presentment Currency Overview

Important: Presentment currency functionality is a limited-release solution available only to select merchants at this time. Additional conversion costs will apply. For more information, reach out to your PayPal account manager.
Use presentment currencies to expand the range of currencies you can transact in and allow your buyers to shop in currencies they're familiar with.
PayPal categorizes each supported currency as one of the following types:
Holding currency— A currency you present on your website or mobile app, that you can transact in, and that you can hold in your PayPal account. In your account settings, you can designate one of these currencies as your primary holding currency, which is the default currency for sending and requesting payment.
Presentment currency— A currency you present on your website or mobile app and that you can transact in. Because you can't hold presentment currencies in your PayPal account, PayPal automatically converts the funds into your primary holding currency.
Note: When PayPal converts funds into your primary holding currency, the currency conversion rate includes PayPal's applicable spread or fee.
Important: Exceptions to primary holding currency conversions — Regulations in some countries prevent merchants from receiving funds in their primary holding currency. In these cases, PayPal automatically converts received presentment currencies into USD rather than the designated primary holding currency. Currently, the countries where presentment currencies are converted to USD, rather than the local primary holding currency are Malaysia (MYR).
Effective 1 April, 2021, PayPal will no longer offer domestic payment services in India. As a result of this, PayPal Payments Private Limited users cannot use Indian rupees (INR) to receive payments. This change, however, has no impact on PayPal’s international services. Users in India can continue to send and receive international payments in US dollars (USD).
