PayPal-supported currencies

Currency codes appear alongside monetary amounts throughout PayPal reports. Each transaction row that includes a monetary value also includes the corresponding currency code, letting you identify the denomination of every amount in a single record.

PayPal reports use ISO 4217 currency codes to represent monetary amounts in transaction fields. An ISO 4217 code is a 3-letter identifier that uniquely identifies a fiat currency, for example USD for United States Dollar or EUR for Euro. Using an unrecognized code in a currency field returns no results.

This page lists every fiat currency that PayPal supports for payments and account balances, so developers and analysts who work with PayPal report data can accurately interpret and validate currency fields in your reports. Currency codes appear in many fields, including:

• Currency — The currency of the transaction, which is present in most reports that include monetary amounts, such as the Activity Download report.
• Transaction Currency — The currency of the gross transaction amount in reports such as the Balance report and Pricing Transaction report.
• Settlement Currency — The currency in which the transaction is settled, when it differs from the transaction currency.
• Payout Currency — The currency in which a revenue share payout is disbursed, in reports such as the Revenue Share Transactions report.

Supported currencies

Special currency behavior

Some currencies have special behavior that you should be aware of when you work with PayPal report data:

• In-country currencies (BRL, CNY, MYR): These currencies are supported as a payment currency (buyer currency) or settlement currency (holding currency) only for in-country PayPal accounts. If the settlement account is based outside of the country, PayPal converts the amount to the account's primary currency at the applicable currency conversion rate, which includes a spread or fee.
• Zero-digit currencies (HUF, JPY, TWD): These currencies do not support decimal places or fractions. Always express amounts in these currencies as whole numbers in your integration.
