In-Store Payment Use Cases

Use this page to understand the key in-store payment journeys your teams will implement with Verifone and Braintree, from the cashier and customer point of view. It walks through canonical scenarios like standard card sales, refunds, voids, pre-authorizations, and card-on-file so product and engineering teams can align on expected behavior before diving into API details.

Sale transactionAnchorIcon

  1. The cashier confirms the payment total and proceeds with payment via Point of Sale (POS).
  2. The POS sends a Sale request to Verifone's POS Cloud or PSDK with the sale amount.
  3. The payment terminal receives the request, and the customer is asked to present their card.
  4. The customer's card data is securely transmitted to Braintree and charged for the sale amount.
  5. Verifone returns the sale transaction data from Braintree to the POS.

  5. Verifone returns the sale transaction data and the vaulted payment method token from Braintree to the POS.
