PayPal Link Overview

PayPal Link enables partners to establish a link between the customer's account with the partner and the customer's PayPal account. With the customer's consent, partners can push the following information to the customer's PayPal account:

• Name
• Address
• Email
• Credit and debit cards
• Phone number
• Bank accounts

PayPal Link may provide these benefits:

• Enhance customer experience
• Give the customer more payment options
• Grow customer base
• Improve transaction approval rate

Flow Overview

Partners onboard customers by sending them through these steps, starting from the partner's website or mobile application:

1. Create new PayPal account or sign in with an existing account.
2. Add payment methods such as credit and debit cards.
3. Consent for the partner to access customer information and keep customer data synced between involved parties.

A customer must complete all three steps for a successful onboarding. Successful onboarding means the partner can update the customer's information in PayPal.

Onboarding flow

The partner initiates the onboarding flow with information the customer provided to the partner. PayPal auto detects the customer's email address to populate the email field at login.

After the customer completes or cancels the onboarding flow, the customer is sent back to the partner website or mobile application.

PayPal log in flow

If the customer's email address exists in PayPal, they are presented a login screen to enter their PayPal credentials. Alternatively, the customer can choose to create a new PayPal account.

PayPal sign up flow

If the email address does not exist in PayPal, the customer is prompted to sign up for a PayPal account and agree to the terms and conditions. The customer can change the email address before creating an account.

Add and update cards

After a customer completes the onboarding flow, the partner can use the customer's consent to update the customer's card information in PayPal.
