Manage subscriptions

Important: NVP/SOAP is a legacy integration method. We still provide support, but a newer version of these solutions exists. If you're starting a new integration, we recommend using our Subscriptions REST API.

You can manage subscriptions from the Subscriptions detail page or by using the Recurring payments dashboard. This topic describes how to perform the following actions from the Subscriptions detail page:

  • Cancel a subscription.

Note: Canceled subscriptions cannot be reactivated.

  • Suspend or reactivate a subscription.

The suspend action temporarily stops charging the subscriber, but keeps their subscription active for future billing. For example, a buyer might temporarily suspend a subscription while they are vacation. You can then reactivate the subscription to start charging the subscriber again.

  • Change a subscription's details.

Edit subscription details to update buyer information, adjust the cost or subscription cycles, and specify how to handle missed or failed payments.

To cancel, suspend, reactivate, or change a subscription:

  1. Log in to your PayPal Business or Premier account at www.paypal.com.

  2. At the top of the page, click Activity.

  3. From the Transaction drop-down menu, click Subscription agreements.

  4. Use Search for transactions or any combination of the drop-down menus to locate a subscription.

  5. Locate the subscription that you want to modify and click the subscription name.

    The Subscription details page opens.

  6. Click an action button or link:

    • Cancel
    • Suspend
    • Reactivate
    • Change
  7. Confirm or save changes.

The page is refreshed with a confirmation of the action taken.
