Omnichannel Frequently Asked Questions
Use this page to quickly answer common questions about how the Braintree-Verifone omnichannel solution works, what is required for integration, and where responsibilities sit across parties.
General
Q: Does this solution support processing in-store transactions through Braintree using a third-party processing partner, such as Chase or Adyen?
A: In-store card transactions for this solution are processed through Braintree's primary processing partner. Verifone can support other processors through its own gateway for limited use cases. Work with your PayPal and Verifone teams if you have non-standard processing requirements.
Q: Can a merchant use this solution out of the box, or is an integration required?
A: An integration is required. You must have POS software and integrate it with Verifone's terminal application as well as Braintree's APIs. See Get Started with In‑Person Payments,Technical Integration Overview, and Verifone Operations for implementation guidance.
Q: Who is responsible for the integration?
A: Integration responsibilities are shared across parties:
- Verifone: In-store integration between your POS and Verifone terminals
- Braintree: Ecommerce and gateway integration
- Both Braintree and Verifone: Support for integrating omnichannel use cases
See How the Solution Works and Technical Integration Overview for details.
Q: What if I already have a Braintree gateway for ecommerce?
A: Your existing Braintree gateway will be enabled for Verifone processing. No new account is required. Work with your PayPal team and follow Set Up Your Braintree Gateway to enable in-person processing on your current gateway.
Q: How long does onboarding take?
A: Your integration team will develop a rollout plan, and the timeline will vary based on factors such as number of locations, POS integration complexity, and testing requirements. Use the Get Started with In-Person Payments section and the associated integration checklists to plan milestones and dependencies.
Q: Can I use this integration outside the United States?
A: International availability depends on region and processor support. Contact your PayPal Account Manager to discuss international availability and requirements.
Hardware
Q: Do you support semi-attended or unattended terminals, such as kiosks?
A: Semi-attended terminals are supported. Unattended terminals are not supported at this time. For supported Verifone hardware families and form factors, see the Supported Verifone Devices section.
Q: How can I manage my hardware fleet?
A: VHQ is Verifone's device management portal, which lets merchants remotely monitor, update, and troubleshoot devices to reduce downtime and simplify maintenance. For an overview of supported Verifone hardware families and form factors, see the Supported Verifone Devices section.
Q: Can merchants use Verifone hardware for marketing?
A: Yes. VHQ also supports content management so marketing teams can push promotions and media to devices across locations. For more context on how Verifone devices fit into your in-store experience, see Supported Verifone Devices and In‑Store Payment Use Cases.
Integrations
Q: What types of integration does Verifone offer?
A: Verifone offers several integration options, including a Cloud API and a Payment Software Development Kit (PSDK) to connect your POS to the Verifone gateway. For details on which operations are available through each option, see the Verifone Operations and Technical Integration Overview sections.
Q: Is this solution P2PE (point-to-point encryption) certified?
A: Yes. The in-person solution supports P2PE, helping reduce your PCI DSS scope when implemented with Verifone hardware. For more information on encryption, EMV, and tokenization, see the Security and Compliance section of the Supported Payment Methods page.
Card and wallet processing
Q: Can we support offline processing?
A: Yes. This solution supports offline processing, also known as store-and-forward. For how offline and online transactions appear in your tools, see Payment Flows, In-Store and Omnichannel and Control Panel for In-Person Payments.
Q: Does the solution support vaulting in-person cards into the Braintree vault?
A: Yes. You can integrate so that cards accepted at the terminal are vaulted in Braintree and can be safely reused for future transactions where appropriate. For more details, see In-Store Payment Use Cases and Braintree Passthrough Fields, including how vault indicators and tokens appear in responses.
