Key definitions for FX as a Service

Understand the different currency information to best use the FX as a Service for your business.
Primary currency
The key currency in which a merchant prefers to hold the balance in PayPal business account. You can check your primary currency set for your business account.
- Log in to your PayPal business account at paypal.com.
- Click the settings icon at the top of your PayPal account page and then click Account Settings.
- From the left menu, select Money, Banks, and Card.
- Under Currency Management, the currency marked as Primary is your primary currency.
Holding currencies
A set of currencies, supported by PayPal, in which merchants can hold the balance in their PayPal business accounts. But a merchant holding the balance in a particular currency is based on the merchant’s account country. You can check and modify it from your PayPal business account.
- Log in to your PayPal business account at paypal.com.
- Select the settings icon at the top of your PayPal account page and go to Account Settings.
- From the left menu, select Money, Banks, and Card.
- Under Currency Management, you can add or remove the currencies for which you can hold balances in your account.
Presentment currencies
In addition to the holding currencies, PayPal also supports currencies in which payment transactions can be performed but for which merchants cannot hold the balance in their PayPal account.
Base currency
The key currency in which a merchant prefers to hold their PayPal business account balance. Only PayPal holding currencies are allowed as base currency using FX as a Service.
Quote currency
The currencies in which merchants can let buyers to make payments. Both PayPal holding and presentment currencies are supported as quote currencies.
