PayPal Upgrade Guide

This document outlines the recommended path for merchants using Adobe Commerce or Magento Open Source to transition to the latest PayPal integration. The steps vary depending on your site version and the specific capabilities you require. No matter your setup, there is a streamlined migration path designed to minimize friction and ensure a smooth upgrade experience.

Requirements & Installation

Why Upgrade

  • Each merchant runs a specific version of Adobe Commerce or Magento Open Source, which determines the underlying cart framework.
  • Staying on the latest version of Adobe Commerce or Magento Open Source ensures your site is protected with the most recent security patches, optimized for peak performance, and fully compatible with the newest PayPal capabilities.
  • We recommend upgrading your Commerce version and PayPal integration together to deliver the most seamless, secure, and future-ready experience for your business and your customers.

Prerequisites

  • To check your version, log in to your Adobe Commerce or Magento Open Source Admin panel. Scroll to the bottom-right corner of the page, where you’ll see a version number displayed in a three-part format (for example, 2.4.8). Versions range from 1.x through 2.4.8+. See the example below.
