Review what you need before you start, then follow the steps to install and activate the PayPal Braintree Plugin.

Prerequisites

Before you start, you need:

An active Braintree account. If you do not have an active account, contact PayPal Braintree Sales.
Admin Role access in your Shopify store.
Optional: Access to a PayPal Shopify partner account, if you're installing the staging app to test before going live.

Installation

Migrate to the PayPal Braintree Plugin for Shopify by installing the app to your Shopify store, completing merchant sign-up, and activating your payment gateway.

Install the production and staging apps

Install the Braintree app in both your production store and a development store so you can test the integration before you go live.

Install the production app using the Shopify App Store.
Visit the Shopify App Listing page.
Search for the "PayPal Braintree" app and select Install.
When prompted, accept the access requests and select Install.
Install the staging app by opening your PayPal Shopify partner account.
Go to Apps and select PayPal Braintree Staging.
Navigate to the Overview page.
Locate the Test your app box and choose Select Store.
Select the development store where you wish to install the app.

Complete merchant signup and activate the payment gateway

Enter your Braintree account credentials to complete merchant signup, then activate PayPal Braintree as your store's payment gateway.

Open your Braintree account.
Select Account Settings > Business > Merchant Account ID.
Save your merchant account ID, public key, and private key.
Click Save. A message confirms that your changes are saved.
Return to your store using the back arrow button on the page.
You are redirected to the Store > Settings > Payments screen, with the "PayPal Braintree Payments" app highlighted. If not, go to Dev Store > Settings > Manage > Search to look for "PayPal Braintree Payments".
Check the "Test mode" box and select Active to set PayPal Braintree as the gateway.
Select Save to confirm your updates.

Simulate a purchase

Make a test transaction in your store to confirm the integration works end to end.

Go to Store > Online Store > View your store, or use a direct store link.
Add a product to your cart / buy now.
On the checkout page, fill out your personal and card info.
Select "Pay Now" to trigger a transaction using the app as the backend service. If you are using test payments, see the Testing page for test cards and other details.
Verify the transaction in your Braintree Sandbox Account.
