Recurring Billing
Plans
Before creating subscriptions, you must create a plan. A plan is a template for your subscriptions: when you create a plan, it will be used to populate information such as amount, currency, and billing cycle when a new subscription is created.
Creating a plan
To create a plan in the Control Panel:
- Log into the Control Panel
- Click on Subscriptions in the navigation bar
- Click the Plans tab
-
Click the Create A Plan button
- If you have already created one or more plans, this button will read New Plan
- Fill out any relative information – including:
- Click the Create button
If you are adding a trial period to a plan, read the trial period risks and requirements first.
Updating a plan
You can update a plan in the Control Panel. The billing cycle can't be modified on an existing plan, but you can change all other elements.
- Log into the Control Panel
- Click on Subscriptions in the navigation bar
- Click the Plans tab
- Click the Edit link located to the right of the plan you'd like to update
- Make any desired changes
- Click the Save button
If you update the details of a plan, those changes will only apply to new subscriptions – existing subscriptions will not be updated automatically.
Merchants operating in the European Union must give customers 4 weeks’ notice before changing the price of their recurring billing plan; 4 weeks’ notice is also required before billing customers if it has been 6+ months since their last payment. If you don’t operate in the EU, these notices aren't required (but they're still good practice).
Deleting a plan
You can only delete a plan in the Control Panel. A plan can't be deleted if it has any former or current subscriptions associated with it.
- Log into the Control Panel
- Click on Subscriptions in the navigation bar
- Click the Plans tab
- Click the Delete link located to the right of the plan you'd like to remove
- Click the Yes button to confirm
